Northwest Seattle

Northwest Seattle is an area the encompasses several neighborhoods, each with its own distinct character. Some notable neighborhoods in this region area include Ballard, Fremont, Green Lake, Phinney Ridge and Wallingford.

Ballard, one of the most well-known neighborhoods in Northwest Seattle, has a rich maritime heritage. It was historically a fishing and shipbuilding community and still retains its maritime character with fishing boats and a charming downtown area. One of the neighborhood’s most popular attractions is the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, commonly referred to as the Ballard Locks. These locks connect the waters of Lake Washington, Lake Union, and the Puget Sound, making them a vital passage for boats and ships. The surrounding park and fish ladder offer opportunities for leisure and wildlife viewing. Ballard’s main thoroughfare, Market Street, is lined with shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, contributing to the neighborhood’s vibrant and lively atmosphere. Adjacent to Ballard is the quirky neighborhood of Fremont, known for its public art installations, bohemian vibe, and the iconic Fremont Troll sculpture.

Located to the East of Ballard and Fremont you’ll find the neighborhood of Green Lake. The main highlight of the neighborhood is Green Lake Park, a large urban park surrounding the lake. The park features a 2.8-mile paved path around the lake, making it a favorite spot for joggers, cyclists, walkers, and rollerbladers. It also has playgrounds, sports fields, picnic areas, and a swimming beach, providing ample recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
